History and Background: Starting to surf the Internet with Dooble...

It's September 8th, 2008. A small team of developers around Gunther van Dooble launch http://dooble.sf.net. History is made.

The Dooble Web browser is an intuitive application: However, what is a browser without a search engine? Hence, the integrated, distributed search engine YaCy. Each and every Dooble user, under their supervision, contributes to a high capacity search engine. Thousands of free user-nodes use the established and distributed search engine of Dooble. The built-in RetroMessenger allows users to communicate with friends in a secure and pleasant manner. And encrypted e-mails are sent with Nuntius Leo, integrated in the suite.

To reiterate, Dooble comes with several security-focused features in order to provide users the freedom to enjoy the World Wide Web. Our claim: 4S-4U (Surf, Search, Send, Speak for You)! The Web browser that you, and only you, control.

December 04, 2008 the fist release of Dooble Web Browser v. 0.01 has been made for Windows.

Technically, Dooble uses QtWebKit, Chrome's skin-like theme, the Nuntius Leo e-mail client function, the RetroMessenger chat messenger, and the distributed search engine YaCy to explore the web!

Dooble is an Open Source software project and is licensed under the GPLv2. Complete license and copyright information can be found within the source code of the Dooble project.

January 24, 2009, Dooble v. 0.04 is under the Top 90 projects of SF.net and already 6% of this dooble website visitors use Dooble Web Browser.

Why the name? Dooble is a play on words. As Dooble refuses to track a user's Web activity, the user assumes a "dooble" identity. Be free, get a Dooble. Second, Dooble makes the user-to-user communication over the Web safe and secure. It's as safe as communicating with someone face-to-face. Therefore, the "face in the mirror" logo. Third, Dooble is, of course, a homage to the founder Gunther van Dooble.

Dooble Web Browser compiles as well on Mobile Internet Phone Maemo and Nokia N 900:

Maemo is the open source linux platform for mobile devices, internet tablets and phones, which is not tracking users. Thus open linux mobile needs an open source web browser: Dooble.

Dooble Web Browser compiles as well on Openmoko QtMoko Freerunner

Openmoko or QtMoko is the open source linux platform for mobile devices, internet tablets and phones, which is not tracking users. The Freerunner is the hardware mobile phone, which uses Openmoko. Thus this open linux mobile needs an open source web browser: Dooble.
Compiled and tested on Debian Lenny (armel architecture). Install dependencies first:
# apt-get install libqtcore4 libqtgui4 libqt4-network libqt4-webkit libc6 libgcc1 libstdc++6

GERMAN SUMMARY:

Browser? - was sind denn jetzt nochmal Browser?
